St Wilfrid's offers a wide range of different courses leading to higher education, employment of training. We offer a total of twenty eight courses, two of which are compulsory to Year 12, and one which is compulsory to Year 13. The whole planet is teeming with life, from the smallest single celled organisms, to the largest complex multi-cellular beings, it is amazing how we were all once connected with each other, but also how we vary from one another, with all of these similarities and differences being found within the blueprint of life found in all species, DNA. Now if you find that amazing then this course is perfect for you. The course consists of four units, two of which are taught in Year 12 (Unit 1 & 2), and the other two units (Unit 4 & 5) in Year 13. Unit 1 is all about 'Biology & Disease', Unit 2 being about the 'Variety of Living Organisms', Unit 4 is about 'Populations and Environments', and Unit 5 is about 'Control in Cells and Organisms'. The elements. The entire universe is made of of these building blocks, from the trees outside, to the stars in the night sky. How do these elements make up these magnificent structures, or in fact how do they react with each other? Chemistry is the study and pursuit to find out how elements react and combine to give us the things in life we all take for granted. During the first year (Year 12) you will learn Unit 1, which is all about the Foundations of Chemistry, and Unit 2, which is all about Chemistry in Action. During the second year (Year 13) you will learn Unit 4, which is all about Kinetics, Equilibria and Organic Chemistry, and Unit 5, which is all about Energetics, Redox and Inorganic Chemistry. Drama has been part of our society for thousands of years, since the days of the ancient Greeks, where plays depicted the two classical genres, comedy and tragedy. Of course today drama takes a more wider view, covering more genres such as horror, psychological, period. During the first year (Year 12) you will learn Unit 1, which is all about the Exploration of Drama and Theatre, and Unit 2, which is all about Theatre text in Performance. Language, it is the way we have communicated with each other for over 100,000 years. With language, we can convey our thoughts and feelings to each other with ease, both verbally and scripted. History teaches us who we were, and how we came to be, from treaties and friendships, to wars and deceit, the people in our past have shaped and moulded what we are today, so if you want to learn about the story of the past then history is just for you. R.E is really a subject that deals with the spirituality of the school, by teaching and discussing different ideas, and views, that are held within the catholic church, so students are educated within the catholic ethos of the school, but are allowed to approach it with their own views. During the course you will discuss about different topics, as well as going out into the community and offering one hour (the R.E lesson) as volunteer work, which may go towards filling out your UCAS Application form. |
